About the role

The Landscape Gardener is responsible for the planning and execution of landscaping projects and the comprehensive maintenance of gardens and grounds. This role involves both the structural elements of landscaping and the horticultural care of plant life. The incumbent will ensure that all outdoor spaces under the care of Strats Maintenance Pty Ltd are aesthetically pleasing, functional, and healthy, adhering to specific design plans and client requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Examining plans, specifications, and site conditions to determine the necessary materials, equipment, and labour required for landscaping projects. This includes site clearing, soil preparation, and ensuring proper drainage systems are in place
  • Constructing and installing landscape features such as garden walls, fences, trellises, pergolas, ponds, and water features. This includes the laying of paving, paths, and the installation of edging to define garden beds and turf areas.
  • Selecting and planting trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and turf according to design specifications and environmental suitability. This involves applying knowledge of plant growth rates, soil requirements, and climate conditions to ensure successful establishment.
  • Executing comprehensive maintenance programmes, including pruning, hedging, weeding, and mulching. The Landscape Gardener is responsible for identifying and treating plant pests and diseases and applying fertilisers and soil conditioners to promote optimal plant health.
  • Installing, operating, and maintaining irrigation systems to ensure efficient water delivery to all planted areas. This includes troubleshooting system failures and adjusting schedules based on seasonal requirements.
  • Operating and maintaining a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and earth-moving machinery. All tasks must be performed in strict accordance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and company safety protocols. 

Essential Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of horticultural practices, plant identification, and soil science.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting landscape architectural plans and technical drawings.
  • Competence in the use of specialised landscaping machinery and power tools.
  • Strong physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards and environmental protection protocols

Qualifications needed:

  • Trade qualification or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Minimum one year of work experience on relevant position

Salary: The role offers a remuneration package ranging from $75,000-$95,000 plus superannuation for a 38-hour work week.
