Community Development Coordinator

Please note that this role is a 12 Month Full-Time Fixed term contract with possibility for extension depending on funding.

• Manage projects, research and activities led by First Nations priorities and cultural guidance

We are seeking candidates who:

You’ll identify with our values and become known for your commitment to centring First Nations voices in advocating for a fairer and more culturally inclusive economic system. You’ll derive satisfaction from seeing your colleagues and clients gain new skills, knowledge and strengths.

The successful applicant will:

• Have a minimum Bachelor degree in Community Development, Anthropology, Sociology or similar.
• Be an experienced Community Development practitioner, working with First Nations people or culturally and linguistically diverse communities
• Have experience managing projects, activities and community based research
• Be creative, emotionally intelligent and a lifelong learner
• Be a skilled communicator across all domains – verbal, written and spoken
• Have excellent administrative, time management and IT skills
• Unrestricted Drivers’ License and right to work in Australia

In your first six months, you’ll:

• Undertake cultural awareness training and induction
• Meet, get to know and start working with the members of our Uwanakaraku Tjungungku Kulira Wangkapai Board
• Recruit a small team of Anangu project officers
• Implement the Board’s First Nations Gambling Research project
• Network with funding bodies and other stakeholders.
• Ensure the project is documented to a high standard

Working in the community sector with complex clients requires sound physical and psychological fitness. Community sector work carries a likelihood of staff exposure to acute or prolonged stress due to the inherent nature of the roles – particularly considering the levels of ongoing and intergenerational trauma carried by First Nations communities.
