Compliance Officer, Human Tissue

About the role:

The Compliance Officer undertakes regulatory activities in relation to various regulatory domains (which may include radiation, pest control and human tissue). Working across the different sectors, the Compliance Officer will use their knowledge and experience to support and administer the team's regulatory functions and monitor and enforce compliance in accordance with the relevant legislation.

Reporting to the Manager, Regulated Industries, you will work in a small and busy team that provides advice to senior management in the Department and the Minister for Health on various regulatory issues and administer legislation and regulations in various health regulatory domains. 

The team is located within the Health Regulator Branch and, as a key member of that team, you will be required to work with other team members as well as other teams across the Health Regulator on a range of regulatory and investigative matters to enable the Department to meet its regulatory obligations and to provide oversight for the safety and quality of various sectors.

About you:

• Conduct desktop and onsite assessments of regulated entities, preparing reports, advice, and correspondence as required and assisting in taking essential regulatory action when non-compliance is identified
• Work collaboratively across the organisation to identify and address areas of non-compliance
• Demonstrated experience in regulatory and public policy work, preferably related to registration, compliance, field investigations, gathering of admissible evidence and permitting functions as well as knowledge of relevant government legislation
• Prepares technical reports at an advanced professional level
• Seeks all relevant information for problem-solving; liaises with stakeholders; analyses issues from different perspectives and draws sound inferences from information available; identifies and proposes workable solutions to problems; implements solutions, evaluates effectiveness and adjusts actions as required

Qualification/Specialist Expertise

• Current Victorian driver's licence

• Certificate IV in Government Investigations

• Additional tertiary qualification in a relevant field (regulation, law, science, health and public health; or other relevant science qualifications) would be highly regarded. 

• Experience in regulatory and public policy work as well as knowledge of relevant government legislation.

• Knowledge and experience in government would be desirable.

• Experience in the health service sector, hospital environment or in a clinical/science/chemical environment would be advantageous.

Additional Requirements:

The role may include periods of out-of-business hours work (weeknights and weekends) and travel to regional and remote areas.
