Control System Specialist

Limitless Recruitment

Opportunity

Australia’s energy system is undergoing a once in a generation transformation, and my client is building the systems that make it possible. They bring grid intelligence to commercial buildings, optimising assets like solar, BESS, HVAC, and refrigeration to respond to real world grid factors and VPP (Virtual Power Plant) requirements.

They are not just another energy company; they are one of the most technically advanced integration companies in the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) space. Their platform acts as a centralised SCADA system that orchestrates complex energy assets.

Joining a small, elite technical team doing big things, you will have the chance to be more than just a cog in a machine. This is a chance to reduce "single point of failure" risks in the engineering team and help define the future of the Australian grid.

The Role

This is a high impact role where mechanical systems, electrical infrastructure, and software intersect. You won’t just be sitting behind a desk; you will own the entire project lifecycle, from initial scoping and pricing to design, commissioning, and on site troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects from concept through to final commissioning.
  • Connect sensors, meters, and controllers into a unified environment.
  • Configure and troubleshoot communication layers (Modbus for batteries/meters and BACnet for HVAC).
  • Identify bugs and resolve complex integration issues (Python experience is a major bonus here).
  • Represent my client in technical discussions with facility managers, consulting engineers, and retailers.

About You

My client is looking for a “unicorn”, someone who has the technical chops of a Tier 1 engineer but the "get it done" attitude of an electrical contractor. You might be a rising star looking to challenge the status quo, or a seasoned veteran who loves being "on the tools."

Required Experience:

  • You must understand energy. They are moving too fast to train on the basics of tariffs, peaks, and grid dynamics.
  • Deep, hands on experience with BACnet and Modbus is crucial.
  • Familiarity with commercial HVAC controls, solar PV, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Ability to handle networking (TCP/IP), electrical drafting (AutoCAD/Bluebeam), and basic coding/scripting.

Qualities Valued:

  • You can "fly by the seat of your pants" when priorities shift and thrive in a fast paced environment.
  • You take initiative and don’t need a manual to find a solution.
  • You are comfortable with longer hour days when a project is hitting a critical commissioning phase.
  • If you are looking for a highly structured, slow moving corporate environment, this is not the role for you.

Benefits & Culture

My client is made up of energy geeks at heart. They value curiosity, transparency, and results over hierarchy.

  • Your work directly affects how buildings consume and store energy.
  • Work with cutting edge VPP infrastructure and advanced control networks.
  • A tight knit team where personality is just as important as technical skill. They need someone who fits the "vibe" and wants to grow with them.
  • They move fast, they test, and they deploy. Your ideas will be heard and implemented.

How To Apply

This is a full time, office based role in Brisbane central with occasional travel to project sites across Australia.

If you are a driven engineer who wants to be at the front line of the energy transition, please apply OR submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience with BACnet/Modbus and why you’re ready to move away from traditional corporate engineering.
