Engineering / Technical Manager Opportunity in the Defence Domain – Southern Suburbs

A leading engineering organisation within the defence and subsea domain is seeking a Technical Manager or Engineering Manager to lead a specialist engineering function delivering complex, high-integrity systems. This is a senior leadership role accountable for the end-to-end engineering lifecycle, driving technical excellence from concept and design through to delivery, sustainment, and end-of-life. You will play a pivotal role in shaping engineering strategy while leading a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, innovative and compliant solutions in a highly regulated environment.
Your new role
- Lead and manage the engineering function across the defence portfolio
- Drive delivery of technical solutions across safety, quality, cost and schedule objectives
- Oversee engineering execution, including budget control, planning and resource allocation
- Provide leadership and mentorship to a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and governance frameworks
- Develop and implement engineering strategies aligned to business objectives
- Work closely with production and operational teams to deliver cost-effective, manufacturable solutions
- Champion continuous improvement, innovation and engineering best practice
What you'll need to succeed
- Degree-qualified engineer with relevant professional registration (or equivalent) – Mechanical Engineering Preferred
- Proven experience in a technical leadership role within defence, maritime or similarly regulated industries
- Strong background in engineering design, systems integration or complex product development
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
- Experience managing technical risk, budgets and long-term engineering strategies
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance
- Passion for safety, innovation and continuous improvement
