About the role

The role provides support to the Senior Manager Farm Operations and Education in the management of the Farm livestock, pastures, fencing, machinery, water infrastructure and facilities on the Armidale SMART Farms for commercial, research, education and outreach activities. This position takes on specific accountability for livestock health and welfare, and the presentation and condition of machinery, equipment, facilities and pastures on the Farms. It will also provide the opportunity to contribute to world class agricultural research and an opportunity to advance your career in modern agriculture.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience with livestock handling and husbandry with a focus on animal welfare
  • Competency in the operation and maintenance of a wide variety of farm equipment and machinery
  • Proven knowledge of and focus on, the application of Workplace Health & Safety principles
  • Excellent communication skills

About the Department

The UNE SMART Farms are comprised of the Armidale SMART Farms (2915 ha) and the Tullimba SMART Farm (740 ha) which is situated approximately 40 km west of Armidale. These properties incorporate sheep and cattle enterprises and a 2,000 head feedlot facility, and aim to lead industry best practice for production, environmental, economic and social indicators. They support community outreach and a broad range of disciplines which enable researchers and their industry partners to conduct world class activities that encompass Sustainable, Manageable, Accessible, Rural Technologies (SMART).
