Payroll and Finance Officer for a not-for-profit organisation in Cootamundra

Our client is seeking a detail oriented and proactive Payroll & Finance Officer to join their team. This role is essential in supporting their mission to deliver high quality aged care services by ensuring our employees are paid accurately and on time, and by contributing to smooth financial operations across the organisation.

You will be responsible for end‑to‑end payroll processing, along with a range of ad hoc finance duties including invoicing, reconciliations, and reporting. This position suits someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys variety in their work, and understands the importance of accuracy and confidentiality in a care‑focused setting.

Your new role

In this role, you will:

  • Process end‑to‑end payroll for 120 employees on a fortnightly cycle, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant awards, legislation, and organisational policies.
  • Maintain employee records, including onboarding, terminations, leave balances, and contract changes.
  • Interpret aged care industry awards and enterprise agreements.
  • Manage superannuation, PAYG, salary packaging, and other statutory obligations.
  • Prepare payroll reports for management and external stakeholders.
  • Respond to payroll queries from staff in a timely and supportive manner.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and assist with month‑end processes.
  • Prepare and issue client and funding‑related invoices.
  • Assist with accounts payable processing.
  • Support month‑end and year‑end financial activities, including reconciliations and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
  • Assist with quarterly & annual reporting as required.
  • Provide general finance administration support to the Finance Manager and broader team.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience in a full function payroll role, ideally within aged care, healthcare, or a similar regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, awards, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with payroll and accounting systems (e.g., MYOB, Xero, Care Systems, or similar).
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
  • Strong Excel and data entry skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service approach.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Empathy and respect for the aged care sector and its workforce.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and high‑quality service delivery.
