As our Play in the Park Program Officer you’ll play a key role in creating welcoming, engaging, and supportive experiences for children and families in a supported playgroup setting.

This role is about planning and running Play in the Park sessions at local and regional parks in the Great Southern. Play in the Park is a well know service in Albany, and is about fun, learning, and connection to community through activities for children under 4 and helping their parents to connect; This role requires someone who is interested in making a real difference in the early years of children’s development while supporting parents and carers to engage meaningfully with their little ones.

What you’ll be doing

As our Playgroup Assistant/Program Officer, you’ll be hands-on in creating a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for children and families. You’ll plan and run engaging playgroup activities at Play in the Park sessions , while encouraging parents to join in and role model positive interactions with their children. Part of your role will include driving a small bus to locations, setting up play stations for the sessions, reading books at story time, maintaining playgroup equipment, and ensuring the space is clean, safe, and stimulating in line with the Early Years Learning Framework . You’ll also play an active role in keeping the environment hazard-free, following YMCA WA health and safety policies, and working closely with the Play at the Park Coordinator. At the Y we encourage staff to take part in professional development, and of course, lend a hand with any other duties needed to support our team and families.

You’ll be great in this role if you…

  • Have current National Police Clearance and Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain
  • Are confident to drive a small bus for long distances
  • Hold an A class drivers license
  • Have experience delivering engaging activities for families with young children
  • Have background in program development and implementation
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Are confident with basic computer skills and record-keeping
  • Have effective time management with the ability to prioritise tasks and work independently
