- An indigenous community located 51 km from Cairns with a population of 2550 and a median age of 22yrs old. Yarrabah Hospital provides 24 hours emergency and accident care only, and is co-located with Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services Aboriginal Corporation which provides primary health care services. On-call is shared amongst the 3.2 FTE of SMOs. During rostered hours the allocated SMO is to attend all presentations to the department. Once the SMO is on-call it is at the SMOs clinical judgement to either manage patients over the phone (low acuity) or return to the department (recall) to attend the afterhours emergency presentations for higher acuity.
