Your new role
We have an opportunity for an individual to join our Witness Liaison team as a Witness Liaison Officer on a part-time, fixed term period until 31/12/27.
This role is part time with a minimum of 0.4 FTE with the possibility of periods of up to 0.7 FTE pending business requirements and mutual agreement.
Reporting to the Manager Witness Liaison the role will ensure consideration of witness wellbeing through direct engagement with witnesses and consultation with internal IBAC stakeholders. The role will also refer witnesses to external counselling as and when required.
Duties include:
- Work collaboratively across IBAC to embed appropriate practices in relation to witness wellbeing and engagement liaison, ensuring IBAC Officers are aware of, understand and acquit their requirements under the relevant policies and legislation.
- In collaboration with key IBAC business areas such as investigations and legal, develop and maintain witness engagement plans throughout the course of an operation, with a focus on key IBAC activities including serving of notices and summonses, conducting of examinations, interviews, search warrants, the publishing of reports and referrals of briefs for prosecution.
- Work effectively in a small team to liaise with witnesses in accordance with an agreed engagement plan, providing updates or information as required.
- Identify and support development and delivery of appropriate training for IBAC staff on topics relating to mental health awareness and witness communication and engagement.
- Maintain the currency of IBAC's witness wellbeing policy, procedures, and written resources, and ensure consideration of witness wellbeing is included in each policy or procedure which relates to the use of exercise of IBAC's powers.
- Maintain accurate records regarding witness welfare support and engagement.
- Review wording of correspondence and reports to ensure the language is adequate and trauma informed.

Our requirements / Your skill set
We are looking for candidates with the below experience and capabilities:
- Knowledge and experience in the provision of social work or equivalent services, with the ability to conduct assessments to inform witness engagement plans, including information provision, support, referral, and follow up.
- Knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, communities and individuals Is highly desirable
- Highly developed interpersonal, critical thinking and problem-solving skills used to evaluate issues from multiple perspectives, develop rapport and trust with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders including where there are sensitive, complex and potentially competing interests.
Due to the requirement to attain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of application.
